Bibliographic analysis of ESG research trends in Brazil from 2010 to 2023

Introduction: In recent years, the concept of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) has been consolidated as a reference for assessing corporate sustainability, driving academic interest in the topic. Objective: The Brazilian scientific production on ESG between 2010 and 2023 in the Scopus database was analyzed. Method: Based on the combination of the terms “ESG,” “environmental,” “social,” and “governance” in titles and abstracts, with the aid of the VOSViewer software, 68 documents were examined under five main dimensions: institutions with the highest volume of publications, most cited articles, temporal evolution, citation networks, and keyword co-occurrence. Results: The results revealed the centrality of the relationships between corporate governance and financial performance, while also indicating the fragmented nature of the economic and environmental dimensions. A significant increase in production was observed from 2020 onwards, peaking in 2023, in line with the growth of social interest measured by Google Trends. Mapping by institutional affiliation showed a concentration of publications in universities of greater national prominence and occasional partnerships with international institutions. Conclusion: The research contributed to the critical understanding of the evolution of the ESG literature in Brazil, highlighting the consolidation of the field, the diversification of emerging themes, and the need for greater integration among the dimensions that compose the term.
