HPV Vaccination Coverage in Araguari: Comparative Analysis of the Triângulo Norte Health Macroregion, the State of Minas Gerais, the Municipality of Araguari, and Brazil (2014–2024)

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination constitutes a fundamental strategy for the prevention of cervical cancer and other anogenital neoplasms, having been incorporated into the Brazilian National Immunization Program (PNI) in 2014. This study aimed to analyze the evolution of HPV vaccination coverage among adolescents aged 9 to 14 years in the municipality of Araguari, comparing it with the Triângulo do Norte macroregion, the state of Minas Gerais, and Brazil between 2014 and 2024. This was an analytical ecological, cross-sectional study, based on secondary data from SI-PNI/DATASUS, with tabulation performed in Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets and graphical representation through line charts. The results showed that, although Minas Gerais and the Triângulo do Norte macroregion maintained coverage consistently above the national average, Araguari presented lower performance, especially among boys. While average female coverage in Araguari was 77.5% compared to over 90% in the other spheres analyzed, the discrepancy was even greater among males, with an average of 26.3% versus percentages ranging from 34% to 41% in other regions. Fluctuations were influenced by factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, methodological changes in coverage calculation, and local weaknesses in logistics and mobilization. It is concluded that, despite progress, Araguari still faces challenges in achieving national and global targets, highlighting the need to strengthen strategies for social mobilization, health–education integration, and the fight against vaccine hesitancy.
