Abstract

Burnout Syndrome is quite prevalent among healthcare professionals, mainly due to the exhausting working hours, presenting negative impacts in various areas, such as personal and institutional. The objective of the article is to analyze the causes and consequences of Burnout Syndrome in healthcare professionals. In order to investigate the field of research on this topic, a narrative review of the literature was carried out using the Scielo, PubMed and Lilacs databases and the descriptors “Burnout Syndrome”, “Burnout”, “Psychological Burnout” and "health professionals". The results showed that burnout syndrome has a high incidence among healthcare professionals, resulting in negative impacts on the health of these workers and affecting the quality of care offered to patients. The studies analyzed highlighted the need to carry out more research on the topic, mainly covering other work environments and areas of activity within the health context.
