Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Exactly one year ago, the WHO identified and named COVID-19 a virus with a high level of spread, which later generated a pandemic. In the case of a pandemic such as COVID-19, epidemiological surveillance plays a fundamental role in dealing with data and information that are essential to verify the behavior and evolution of the virus. OBJECTIVE: To verify the epidemiological profile of those killed by Covid-19 in MG in 2020, and its correlation with the population's health factors. METHODOLOGY: This is a literature review study with a survey of articles in the Scielo databases, Virtual Health Library, Academic Google and the website of the State Health Department of Minas Gerais. The screening of articles was performed using the identification and selection flowchart according to the PRISMA Statement. RESULTS: Regarding deaths in the state of MG, a total of 11.784 deaths were confirmed, 5.107 (43%) were female and 6.677 (57%) were male. In relation to race/color, we observed that there was a greater number of deaths from covid in the brown race, 43%, and in the White race, 41%. Of the confirmed deaths, 80% were patients over 60 years of age. Regarding comorbidities, 74% had heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, kidney disease, neurological disease and obesity. CONCLUSION: As it is a relatively recent topic, there are still not many publications and information regarding Covid-19. Given the above, it is evident that epidemiological surveillance plays an important role in the current pandemic.
