Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, through analyzes it was observed that the virus has neurotropism, capable of infecting cortical and hypothalamic regions, causing short-term memory loss and long-term in some patients. Objective: The study intended to clarify how SARS-CoV-2 affects patient memory after COVID-19 infection. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review that proposes to analyze and explain the topic through the existing scientific production. Results: The occurrence of neurological manifestations, including physical changes, such as strokes, and behavioral changes, such as memory loss, is proven. Reports claim that large numbers of people who have recovered from COVID-19 do not feel like they did before the infection, including short-term memory loss, confusion, and an inability to focus. Amnesia is one of the most frequent signs identified in patients with persistent symptoms related to COVID-19. Conclusion: Through the integrative literature review, it was understood that the SARS-CoV-2 virus has pathophysiological mechanisms to reach the CNS, indirectly, with inflammatory cytokines, and directly with the action of the virus or both. Causing harmful consequences to the CNS, such as short- and long-term memory loss and cognitive deficit. More studies are needed to associate the actions of SARS-CoV-2 in the CNS and memory loss, since it is a current disease and is still in the discovery phase.
