Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Rules for Text Presentation

Texts must be in the following order:

  • Title in Portuguese: the title will be displayed in the upper margin, and it should preferably not exceed 40 characters.
  • Title in English: the title will be displayed below the title in Portuguese, and it should preferably not exceed 40 characters.
  • Abstracts* (see note below): the manuscript must contain two abstracts: one in Brazilian Portuguese and one in English. They must contain at least 100 and no more than 250 words.
  • Keywords: a list of three to five index terms both in Portuguese and English must be presented. If the study belongs to the health area, the author must use the descriptors listed in DeCS/MESH Terms available at https://decs.bvsalud.org/ or on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) website: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/
  • Introduction: It must present a brief review of the literature that highlights scientific advances and contextualizes the study itself. Moreover, it must also contain the study’s rationale, as well as its objectives.
  • Methodology: It should clearly and objectively present enough information to allow the study to be repeated by other research groups. Furthermore, authors must also declare what is the study’s type, time allocation, location, inclusion and exclusion criteria (if applicable), instruments and/or procedures used for data collection, data analysis techniques, and use of research tools (if applicable), among others (see the template for more information).
  • Results: The authors must provide a clear and concise description of the results found, making sure to avoid comments and comparisons at this point. Data contained in figures and tables cannot be repeated in the text.
  • Discussion: This section must explore the results obtained as much as possible, relating them to the data already provided in the literature. At the authors’ discretion, the discussion may be developed along with the results.
  • Conclusion: The authors must base their final remarks on the study’s objectives or hypotheses, as well as on the data gathered in the development of the article.
  • Acknowledgments (optional item): This section must be restricted to what is necessary. Financial support must be included in this section.
  • References: the authors must follow the guidelines described herein.
  • Number of pages: texts (including annexes) cannot exceed 20 pages.

 * The authors must write abstracts of up to one paragraph (see template) containing a small introduction, the study’s objective, the method used, results achieved (item with greater prominence), and the conclusion. It must consist of a sequence of sentences and not a simple enumeration of topics and be written with impersonal verbs, active voice, and in the third-person singular.

Reviews and Editorials

Reviews

Reviews are unpublished texts, opinionated in nature, which contain critical analyses of works published in the year prior to the making of the text and that can contribute to the reflection on teaching, research, and extension activities. This kind of text must contain a title (that is different from the one reviewed) in Portuguese and English. After the title, the bibliographic reference of the work reviewed must be indicated.

  • The number of pages: The text cannot exceed five pages.

Editorials

These are collaborations requested by REVISTA MASTER to specialists in areas related to the scope of the journal that is indicated by the editorial coordination to analyze current themes. They must contain:

  • Title in Portuguese: the title will be displayed in the upper margin, and it should preferably not exceed 40 characters.
  • Title in English: the title will be displayed below the title in Portuguese, and it should preferably not exceed 40 characters.
  • Keywords: a list of three to five index terms both in Portuguese and English should be presented. If the study belongs to the health area, the author must use the descriptors listed in DeCS/MESH Terms available at https://decs.bvsalud.org/ or on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) website: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/
  • Text: It should contain a clear description of the editorial purpose.
  • References (if necessary).
  • On the number of pages: Texts (including annexes) should not exceed two pages.

 

General Information

Citations

For the citation of the articles, Revista Master follows the NBR 10520 criteria established by the Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) (click here to access). Citations must be inserted in the text and presented by the author’s surname followed by the year of the study’s publication according to the examples below:

One author:

  • At the beginning or middle of a sentence: Lima (2014)
  • At the end of a sentence or paragraph: (LIMA, 2014)

Two authors:

  • At the beginning or middle of a sentence: Sogin and Inaki (2016)
  • At the end of a sentence or paragraph: (SOGIN; INAKI, 2016)

Three or more authors:

  • At the beginning or middle of a sentence: Souza et al. (2017). Alternatively, the following expression can also be used “and collaborators.” Example: Souza and collaborators (2017).
  • At the end of a sentence or paragraph: (SOUZA et al., 2017).

Note:

  1. In the case of indirect citations, identifying the page consulted is optional.
  2. Direct citations of up to three lines in the body of the text must be written between quotation marks. Single quotes are used to indicate a quotation inside a quotation.
  3. Direct citations of more than three lines in the body of the text must be displayed with a 4 cm indentation from the left margin, a smaller letter size than that of the text, and without quotation marks.

References

For the paper’s bibliography at the end of the manuscript and in the section named “References,” Revista Master follows the NBR 6023/2018 criteria (click here to access). References must obey the following criteria: 

  1. a) They must be aligned to the left;
  2. b) They must follow the NBR 6023/2018 criteria;
  3. c) Authors must be identified by their last names in capital letters, followed by their first and middle names, abbreviated or not, as stated in the document. However, if you opt to abbreviate the last names, stick to this pattern throughout the references.
  4. d) See below some common examples of references. For referencing other works, please refer to NBR 6023/2018 (click here to access).

Book:

Essential elements for referencing a book include:

LAST NAME, First name. Title in bold. Place of publication: Publisher, date of publication.

Example: GOMES, Lucia Galo Filho. Novela e sociedade no Brasil. Niterói: EdUFF, 1998.

Compilation:

LAST NAME, First name. Title of the chapter. In: LAST NAME, First name (Org.). Title in bold. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher, date, page(s) quoted.

Journal article:

LAST NAME, First name. Title of the article. Title of the journal in bold, volume, issue number, page(s) cited, year of publication.

Example:

SOUSA, Alline Alves de; COLETA, Marilia Ferreira Dela. Professional profile, well-being, and job satisfaction among psychologists working in public healthcare services. Estudos de Psicologia, v. 32, n. 2, p. 249-258, 2015.

Academic dissertation or thesis:

LAST NAME, First name. Title of the dissertation or thesis in bold. Year of the presentation. The number of pages. Dissertation (master) or thesis (doctoral), institution in which it was presented (college or university), place, year.

Articles in the electronic format:

LAST NAME, First name. Title of the work. Title of the journal in bold, place, volume, fascicle, initial and final page, month, and year. Electronic address and date of access.

Other works in electronic format:

LAST NAME, First name. Title in bold. Available at: electronic address. Accessed on: 14 Nov. 2017.

Illustrations

Illustrations (if any) must be cited in the text and inserted as close as possible to the excerpt to which it refers. Their identification must appear according to the order they are presented and follow the ABNT and/or Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) criteria, preceded by their proper name (drawing, scheme, flowchart, graph, map, organization chart, chart, portrait, figure, or image, etc.) The maximum number of tables, graphs, charts, and images are:

  • Tables: up to four (tables are used for displaying quantitative data and not for separating information with vertical and horizontal lines). It is mandatory to insert its source right below the table itself, even if it was prepared by the authors themselves (e.g., source: prepared by the authors).
  • Graphs: up to four. It is mandatory to insert its source right below the graph itself, even if it was prepared by the authors themselves (e.g., source: prepared by the authors).
  • Charts: up to four (predominantly used for qualitative data). It is mandatory to insert its source right below the chart itself, even if it was prepared by the authors themselves (e.g., source: prepared by the authors). 
  • Images: up to four (images that have already been published must be accompanied by their author’s approval of use). It is mandatory to insert its source right below the image itself, even if it was prepared by the authors themselves (e.g., source: prepared by the authors).

All tables, graphs, and charts must be displayed in a way that they are editable through MS Word or MS Excel. Manuscripts that present these illustrations in image format will not be approved. See the formatting model HERE for tables, graphs, and charts used by the editors of Revista Master.

All forms of identification of the authors of the manuscript must be deleted. The authors’ metadada information and affiliation must be inserted at the moment of submission and in a proper field.

IMPORTANT: ETHICS IN RESEARCH

Revista Master strives to fulfill ethical policies related to published articles and their processes of review and publication. Ethical decisions and procedures are based on the following documents:

In case of research involving human beings, the authors must provide the approval of the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) along with its registration number in accordance with CNS Resolution no. 466/12;

In a preliminary analysis, editors will check the fulfillment of ethical policies and guide the reviewers to do the same.

If the study is a product of a project that has not passed through the Ethics Committee, the authors must include in the text (in the Methodology) a section that covers ethics in research with the following information:

  1. a) The ethical issues involved in defining and describing the problem (research relevance and scope, benefits to participants, etc.);
  2. b) The ethical issues involved in data collection (i.e., potential risks to participants; questions related to the participants’ anonymity and confidentiality; participants’ consent; special attention to vulnerable populations; attainment of authorities’ permissions; surety of participants’ privacy, etc.);
  3. c) The ethical issues involved in the data analysis and interpretation (i.e., analysis rigor; honesty; commitment to participants; guarantee of participants’ anonymity; proper storage of collected data, etc.);

After the approval of the manuscript, the authors must provide an exclusive license for the article to be published in electronic format, including images that may be selected as a cover image for the journal’s issue.

Copyright law requires authors to provide to Revista Master the permission for figures, tables, and images that were published before in other journals or publishing houses to be used. Permissions must be annexed at the end of the submitted file.

The promotion of the results of scientific works in scientific events in the form of an abstract or extended abstract does not prevent its entire works from being published in Revista Master. Nevertheless, the journal will not accept previously published results of scientific events research.

The authors must be aware that Revista Master’s Editorial Board and Centro Universitário IMEPAC and Faculdade IMEPAC de Itumbiara, the institutions that are linked to the journal, are not responsible for the information and results of the authors’ scientific research.

The authors must also be aware that Revista Master uses tools to detect plagiarism in any of its forms.

Revista Master does not charge any administrative fees for their editorial processes and does not send e-mails nor requests for payment of any financial amount whatsoever.

Authors who publish their productions in this journal agree to the following terms:

  1. a) The license of these copyrights encompasses the right for Revista Master - Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão to reproduce, publish, and distribute the article, nationally and internationally, including in the form of reprints, translations, photographic reproductions, microforms, electronic forms (offline and online), or any other reproduction of a similar nature.
  2. b) The manuscript must not be withdrawn or submitted to any other journal or periodical during the blind peer review. After the manuscript approval, the authors can archive a version of their article on their own website and/or affiliated institutional repository.
