Analysis of biochemical markers cardiovascular, thromboembolic and inflammatory in patients with COVID-19: A narrative review.

Introduction: The SARS-CoV-2 virus, through the spike protein found on its surface, has the ability to bind to the human angiotensin-2 converting enzyme (ACE-2) receptor and promote the development of the disease. Objective: analysis of thromboembolic, cardiovascular and inflammatory biomarkers (D-Dimer, Troponin and CRP) in patients with COVID-19. Methodology: A narrative review was carried out, qualitatively and quantitatively evaluating the articles in the period 2020 and 2021, analyzing the aforementioned markers and their relationship with good evolution and death. Results and discussion: In patients with COVID-19, the presence of venous thromboembolism was identified, justified by a state of hypercoagulability and hematological alterations, demonstrating high levels of D-dimer, which may be elevated in these conditions due to the simultaneous activation of fibrinolysis. Myocardial inflammation in the disease is consistent and can be caused by some pathogenic mechanisms, such as cytokine storm, direct injury, among others. The predominant clinical manifestation of COVID-19 is viral pneumonia, which can cause numerous cardiovascular disorders such as myocardial injury, arrhythmias, acute coronary syndrome and thromboembolism, in addition to an acute inflammatory state established, evidenced by the observation of inflammatory biomarkers. Conclusion: Thus, it is concluded that there is a positive correlation with the severity of inflammatory, cardiovascular and thromboembolic disorders with the favorable or unfavorable outcome of the pathology.
